Our weekend camping adventure began after a days work and we tried to pack up all the gear and children and get out of town. We didn't leave until sunset but the scenery for the ride was pretty. The sounds of cranky children in the car...not so much.
We set up our tent in the dark and the girls fortunately went to sleep quickly. We left Indy outside our tent enjoying the great outdoors. At the crack of dawn or was it a crack of lightening I woke up to check on the dog. It was starting to rain and there was roaring thunder and lightening strobing across a red sky. The picture above is not doctored at all it really was red.
My dad always says "Red sky at night, sailors delight...Red sky in morning, sailors take warning." The weather just added to my uneasiness as the large lodgepole pines began to sway violently back and forth occasionaly hitting each other with a loud smacking sound. Then one tree right above our tent began to make cracking sounds. I being the paranoid mom that I am, gathered the kids and moved the family into the car to finish sleeping.

Fortunately, our trip improved after we went on a cool little hike from trout lake to emrald lake.
It was hot day so it was refreshing to cool off in the water half way through. Indy and Jed swam accross the lake and the girls and I just dipped our feet. The girls are getting to be good little hikers. They still get distracted by most everything along the way but have an amazing amount of stamina for kids their size.
