Wintertime

This has been a fantastic winter.  Normally by this time of year, we have spent several weeks cooped up inside because the ambient air temperature is so cold outside that it is uncomfortable and sometimes dangerous to be outdoors. This year the weather has been pretty mild for Fairbanks standards. Sure, we've had a few cold days, but mostly it's been pretty decent and tolerable.  This gives us a chance to go out and play a little more.

Picture of the northern lights taken from our front porch.  Cool huh?  This winter we have had some wonderful Aurora viewing from our house.  It is one of the blessings we Alaskans get for putting up with cold nights.

In winter Fairbanks gets covered with a blanket of ice crystals which adds a shine and shimmer to ordinary things like chain link fences.

Who doesn't love freeing trees of their snowy burden?

These girls love it!

Snow shower anyone?
